SEGWHAI
activities began in 2006 with the development of technical pathways, an
energy and environment report, a market roadmap, surveys of
manufacturers and existing market conditions and the formation of a
program Steering Committee. Following the scoping phase, SEGWHAI has
four distinct phases:
Prototype Development:
In the Prototype Development phase, developers of SEGWHAI prototypes
will enter a multiple-winner design competition for funding from public
sources. A competition will be conducted to develop and select
approximately four viable prototypes for field and laboratory testing.
Emerging Technology:
In the Emerging Technology phase, utilities will fund field test
installations of winning prototypes and qualified non-prototype
designs. Substantial units will be installed to develop a complete
understanding of performance over time.
Mass Market Pilot:
The Mass Market Pilot program will provide incentives for limited
quantities of qualified and SEGWHAI approved units that have proven
their reliability, efficiency and NOx emission reduction capabilities.
Large scale Mass Market incentive programs will be developed using
models that prove to be successful in the Mass Market Pilot phase.
Mass Market Program:
SEGWHAI will work with utilities to aggregate incentive funding lasting
for five or more years in amounts to make mass production viable.
