Scoping Phase
Initial funding for SEGWHAI is provided by the California Energy
Commission’s (CEC) Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Natural Gas
program. The PIER Natural Gas program is a public interest research and
development program charged with improving natural gas energy
efficiency and environmental quality, and developing renewable
technologies.

SEGWHAI meets the following PIER Natural Gas Efficiency Goals:
- Improving the Energy Efficiency in Natural Gas end uses in California
- Improving the Environmental, Public Health, and Safety of California’s Natural Gas end uses
- Addressing important RD&D gaps
- Providing greater choices for California consumers
- Connecting to near-term market applications
Future Phases
The program seeks funding and participation levels to sustain the
program for over five years. All funding goals listed below are
approximate and may vary with sponsor need and interest.
