To implement a performance-based, comprehensive program
that will cost-effectively maximize energy efficiency and savings in the North
American residential replacement and new construction gas water heater market.
The Super Efficient Gas Water Heating Appliance Initiative (SEGWHAI)
will develop and implement the next generation, cost-effective,
high-efficiency, replacement "storage-type" gas-fired water
heater. SEGWHAI will facilitate the development and
commercialization of this next generation of standard water
heater. SEGWHAI will not invent, prototype, manufacture or sell
units. A well funded incentive
program will be developed to make mass commercialization
possible for those units that meet SEGWHAI performance
specifications.
